Question #7:
We have been preparing to get a bird for some time now. Doing lots of research on what types of bird would be good for us (our lives, schedules, and living space).
Our living room is done in a safari theme, and we are even building a custom "play area" with manzanita branches.
We were pertty sure that we would go for a bird in the parrot family (possibly small macaw, quaker, or even a few senegal parrots), and then suddenly - I saw a Toucanet/Aracaris bird (mini Toucan). They are just so beautiful, and smart too. Although they do not talk, they are still extremely smart birds with amazing personalities.
But, where can I find one of these birds for sale or adoption? What do they cost? so that I can be prepared and not scammed?
I live in upstate New York, if that is at all important.
Thanks for your advice/help

Question #9:
I have been looking into buying a parrot recently and I am not sure what species to get. I want a bird that is friendly and cuddly, and I would like one that has talking abilities (but it isn't a necessity). I'd prefer a less noisy bird (I think everyone would) but I know that is asking a lot from a parrot. So far I have been focusing on conures (particularly suns), mini macaws (I believe a local store has a Illiger's so possibly that kind), amazons, and quakers but I am open to other suggestions.
I don't want a bird as large as an African gray or full-size macaw and I don't want one smaller than a cockatiel (I raise tiels but they won't be in contact with my new bird). Please let me know your suggestions =)
By the way, I live in California and I believe quakers are illegal here =/

Question #13:
I recently contacted someone who is interested in re-homing their 10 month old green mini macaw. They claim the bird is in good health, they are just moving out of town and can't take the bird. They are asking $500. That seems kind of high for a "re-homing" fee.
Any input?
Thanks!

Question #16:
yellow collared mini macaws. Are they good pets? What are they like?
Question #17:
Hi everyone! I have a really good idea for a pet store. Here is what will make it unique:
-Will NOT sell live animals other than fish, mice and rats (snakes gotta eat too!), and some parrots. The mice and rats will be bred by me, mainly as feeders, but not inbred, so they can be bought as pets. And of course I'll socialize them as babies, I wouldn't be able to not! Also, the parrots I want to sell are budgies, cockatiels, and perhaps mini macaws. I'm not sure. But they will be bred by me in my home and the cockatiels and other birds will be hand fed by me (not going to sell a ton, just have one or 2 breeding pairs for each type of bird) and the babies will be well socialized.
-I want to set up pet adoption days with the humane society. So they bring in some dogs and/or cats that need homes, and people can come to my store to adopt them! I have seen this at petsmarts and stuff.
-Because I'm not going to have lots of animals (and none from pet mills), I am going to have a directory of breeders in the area for all kinds of animals. That way, people will have an easy resource to find reliable breeders for the pet they want.
-I am also going to have a self-serve dog wash. They are popular to have at car washes, and cheaper than having the dog professionally groomed.
-Also, I will have an agreement with people that do buy the pets I have, if they can not take care of the animal anymore within a year of purchase, I will take the animal back, to help keep pet shelters from overflowing even more.
-I will carry a HUGE selection of supplies and food for all kinds of pets. Reptiles, fish, small pets, dogs, cats, birds, maybe even horses (still pondering that...)
-And many people are worried about their pets safety with toys. I will do my best to provide only safe products for pets.
My second question is, what are some specific brands or products you would like to see in a pet supply store?
Thanks!
I have owned rats, mice, and I am on my 4th bird. And they have all been healthy and well taken care of, so my pets at the store will be also. Plus, I'll have help with some of the running of the store (mainly from my mom, who would love to work there)
True they can be found in shelters, but, a shelter isn't likely to adopt out a rat or mouse that is going to be fed to someone's snake, are they?
Second, many of the parrots in rescues have "emotional baggage" and may have health, temperment, or other problems. Not everyone has the experience (or want) to take those kinds of birds on. Therefore, I will offer a few sweet, socialized, young birds that I breed myself and will only be sent to good homes. Plus, I have the 1 year return policy.
Question #18:
I have been debating this for three months and am still at a deadlock. I am very good with birds, and many seem to like me. I dont care if my bird talks because i would rather have a sweetie than a talker. I really really like severe macaws. i work at a bird sanctuary and there is an unadoptable, but adorable severe macaw their who will go up my shoulder and just mumble random gibberish in my ear. I also like lorikeets and senegal parrots. They look like fun birds to own. Eclectus are pretty cool but theyre not my favorite. This one might be a surprise. I really like lovebirds. I would only get one type of the bird i want just so you know.
so here are teh choices:
-lovebirds
-mini macaw
-senegal parrot
-lorikeet
-eclectus
any other suggestions/comments about the bird types would be amazing thank you so much :)
Question #19:
I have a SWEET little cockatiel and I want to get more birds. I have been reading about illigers mini macaws and everyone says they are really sweet and get along well with other birds. That sounds perfect for me! I also want to get a blue crown conure, sun conure, jardines parrot, and a panama amazon. I won't get all of these, but could I house it with some of the similar sized, species friendly birds? In a very large cage of course.
Question #20:
I am looking at mini macaws. I like larger birds, but can't have a full size macaw. What is the best mini macaw for me?
-Likely learn to talk, I know all birds are different, but the breed generally can learn a word or 2.
-I know all birds are loud, especially the larger ones, but not extremely loud, like screaming so they can be heard a long distance away. I do have neighbors.
-Generally sweet and friendly. Not usually nippy (if well socialized), and preferably social. I don't care if its a one person bird though.
