    Question #1:

    Best little bird for a pet?

    So i was thinking about getting a bird.(My first time).So pretty much these are the birds in mind:Lovebird, parakeet, lorikeet, Caique, Budgie, Green cheek conure, and maybe a finch.And which are kinda the most smartest OR maybe which is the most nicest.Thanks

    Question #2:

    Risks Of Adopting Birds From Rescue Shelters?

    (I am just full of questions today heh heh thanks all who answer/answered!)

    :-)

    I have found a rescue shelter not far from where I live. I do know that some of the members, here, have experience with bird rehabilitiation. The ages available range from 3 to 20 years. A few have biting issues. The species that I am considering are listed below (no Macaws due to I consider my skill level "intermediate" and don't want to overextend myself or my abililities):

    * Cockatiel
    * Ringneck keets
    * Lovebird
    * Quakers
    * Lorikeet

    So, what are the possible risks involved for a person who adopts these animals? How would my relationship with an adopted bird work out if the bird has strongly bonded to a previous owner?

    Question #3:

    PLEASE ANSWER! WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!?

    I saw a cockateil in the pet shop and it looked like it wasnt cleaning itself and it had food all over it (yes it was a baby) I notified the RSPCA and they said they will look when they have time (-_-) I was going to buy it and give it a better life and get it the treatment it deserves but i have a cockateil and lorikeet of my own and just in case it had a diease that my birds can catch i didnt make that risk.

    It has barley and neck feather and its got a really long tail (Its deffinalty a baby :/) Please help! What kind of diease could it have and if so i need information about it please. If the RSPCA take it in and IF it is treatable i will take it in to my arms and give it a better life. Im strongly againist animal abuse and if its a situation were it just hasnt been cleaning itself then im going to be very angry thinking that they could of just cleaned the bird. My lorikeet when i got it, it had food all over its self and i magaged to clean the concret like food on its body without hurting it so i dont see why they cant do this. Please help!

    Thanks. !!
    Its not like a clean pet shop. It stinks, they chop up all this meat at the back which is very easy to see into. So its appearence is disgusting.
    Why do i have to quarratine it for an amount of time? Does this dieses become unatainable to my other birds? Thanks guys so much for the information, i will have a chat with my mum to see if i can take it. How much would it cost for a cheak up though because im low on money at the moment?

    Question #4:

    Will taking a wild baby lorikeet to the vet break his trust in us?

    A few days ago we found an injured baby lorikeet in the street, unable to fly. The emergency vet said they automatically put these birds down if we give it to them as wildlife because they are pests around here, so we took him home. He's only a baby and got used to us very quickly. He eats out of our hands, climbs on us, lets us scratch him, etc. He's very curious and likes to explore the house, but cannot fly. We put out an ad for him as we thought he might be tame, but nobody's come forward so far.

    I booked an appointment with the vet this weekend for them to look him over and find out exactly what's wrong. I especially want to make sure it's not Beak and Feather Disease as this is common with wild lorikeet babies around here. He's quite brave around us now, but wasn't in the beginning and I want to make sure we don't sever whatever bonding and trust we've built and cause him to "go wild". Do you think that putting him in the car and taking him to a strange location for a strange person to look at him can fighten him and break whatever trust he's built for us so far?

    Question #5:

    i had a question about lorikeet poo?

    i have two rainbow lorikeet and i wanted to know if their poo changes if we feed them different stuff. as i had been feeding them apple and their poo was like water and tranparent then i fed them mango they it became yellow and now i just got avian science wet mix and fed them and they seem to give out yellow liquid (not totally liquid but like a yellow paste like substance) is this normal as i am worried if they are sick and one of them sometimes bites me and sometimes doesn't(i think this is normal as he does it al the time but not sure). please help me i am a bit confused

    Question #6:

    how long shall i keep the wet mix for with my rainbow lorikeet?

    is it fine if i keep it for a day lets day at 10.30 am to 9 pm

    Question #7:

    Where can i get a rainbow lorikeet from?

    Question #8:

    How do i stop my Lorikeet for doing this?

    My 7 week old lorikeet sticks his head in my mouth thinking im his bird mother and it annoyed the **** outta me and ive tryed covering my mouth but he just bits me and its getting worse. Please help!
    He does it after his crop is full too
    aha trying to feed me O_O

    Question #9:

    Is it ok to have ceiling fan on with lorikeet in room?

    Heyaz, I just got a pet lorikeet, he's also my first bird and I was just wondering if it's ok to leave my ceiling fan on in my room at night with him in it. I have my door closed an he'll be in his cage so him flyin into it isn't a concern (he's not trained to fly anyway). I also have my window closed. I need it on because without it I get quite hot and it also lessens my tinnitus to a minimum whilst I sleep.

    So yeah is it ok to leave it on or should I just place a blanket or towel around his cage when I turn it on at night? Or should I just leave him in another room?

    Thanks for advice!

    Question #10:

    What does it mean when my rainbow lorikeet scratches me gently?

    In my house we have three birds, a sun conure, a rainbow lorikeet, and a red lorikeet. The rainbow really seems to like me, and never bites or scratches at me anymore (used to when we first got him). When I take him out of the cage and he crawls onto my arm or shoulder, he'll gently scratch at my skin a few times with each foot, and sometimes touch my skin with beak, but not bite or lick.

    My mom said the scratching is a sign of affection, which I found very sweet, but I'm wondering if it is true or not. Thanks in advance!

    Question #11:

    Problems with my rainbow lorikeet!?

    I have a male 14 week old rainbow lorikeet. i bought him about 3 weeks ago.
    he was hand raised. he wont stop squeaking in the cage he always wants to be out and on my shoulder. but cant have him with me all the time. he always nibbles my ear or necklace which can become annoying as can hurt sometimes.
    would like to know how i can stop the annoying nibbling?
    and also to stop squeaking at me from the cage?. (he always has toys and food)
    I also cant find any useful web site's dedicated to training lori's!

    Thanks

    Question #12:

    Feeling so much grief, guilt and anger over the death of my bird?

    My rainbow Lorikeet died 2days ago. We never found out how old he was, but he flew onto my mum's sholder's 5years ago. When we took him home, we couldn't find his owner, so we had him ever since. I loved the bird so much, he was like a puppy in his personality. But one day, he wasn't dying but I did notice change in his personality and movement. I pointed this out too my mum and brother but they were in an argument and didn't listen. They said he's probably just a bit cold, he's fine.

    But then 4hours later I checked on him again and he was in the corner of his cage staring blankly. He was dead yet (I tried too pick him up and he got angry) so I called mum with panic. She came rushing over. When we got him out, mum was crying because his claws were curled up and he wouldn't move. Now he'd stopped getting angry and just gripped onto her finger. We got him too the vet as soon as possible, but 2hours later they called and said he'd died.

    My mum cried that she killed her bed, because the vet said he'd been sick for a week. About a week ago we got him a new cage, due too his old one being broken. But it's taking longer for me too get over the death of him. Yesterday I cried 90% of the day. That night I cried again. I have too keep myself distracted by a movie or a TV show, or I start thinking about him and burst into tears. I tried all these techniques like talking about him a lot.

    But I can't stop myself from feeling guilty and angry. I fear that I cut his quality of life by bringing a cat home a year and half ago. We hadn't been able too take him out of his cage, so the last time he interacted with us as a family was a long time ago. I feel like I had started neglecting him and now it's too late too fix it.

    But it's also followed by a wave of anger at my family. Firstly at my mother and brother who didn't listen too me when I was first worried about him. Or at my mother who said we'll let him out later, when I wanted too take him out of the cage 2 days ago. Because I hadn't been able too do that in a while. And now I'm showing it towards my cat.

    I need support desperately. But no one understands that he wasn't just a pet bird.
    I'm also angry at the vet for they thought it was weird when my mum cried over the phone, when our bird died. I felt like they didn't do all they could too save him, and seeing as though we payed them $200 they should have.
    spelling errors, can't edit. Where it says "he was dead yet (when I tried too pick him up he got angry"
    I meant he wasn't dead yet.

    Question #13:

    What happens too our pets when they die?

    Well I've being doing some research and apparently god only gave man a soul. So when we are resurrected and brought back too heaven we'll have a new glorified body, but our pets won't be there. What happens too them? I ask because my lorikeet died, and I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing with it's body.
    The bible states, the only souls who will be in heaven are his angels and humans.

    Question #14:

    Is my cat grieving the death of my bird?

    After my Rainbow Lorikeet passed away, my cat has been acting strange. My cat has been sleeping more. On the die the bird died it slept most of the day with my mother who was in devastation. We've had our cat, since before she was weaned. She is a year and a half old and knew the bird her whole life (she also attempted too eat it 3times before giving up lol) She didn't appear too have any sort of relationship with the bird, but stopped seeing it as a snack ages ago. She's also been getting angry and annoyed lately.

    Do you think she's in grief, or does she just know how important it was too us, and is trying too make us feel better?

    can i feed my lorikeet this treat?

    i wanted to give a treat to my lorikeet when they do something right. is it fine if i feed them honey or honey with fruit. i tried honey yesterday and they enjoyed it but they seem to sneeze after eating it. i am not sure if they sneezed because of the honey it might have been some other cause. any suggestion if i am giving them the right treat and any other treat i can give them which is easily available and any suggestion to stop their sneezing (i don't think i need to go to the vet as they last week i had them checked up and he said they were perfectly healthy, so any other suggestion) thought they are not sneezing right now but they sometime do, i mean rarely , but any suggestion on that.
