Question #1:
I have a male and female indian ringneck. For the past 3 weeks or so i have been watching them court each other but haven't seen them mate. The hen is in and out of her breeding box scratching around and tossing the materials out. Last night i checked on them and i noticed the hen was sleeping in the box (first time since i have owned them). She came out of her box this morning and has been eating and drinking, she hasn't been back in the box since she came out which has been about 2 hrs now. Does it sound like she may be starting to lay? Or is it normal for hens to sleep in their breeding box without laying?
I don't really want to check the box right now just in case she is in the process of laying, i don't want to scare her. These are aviary birds. Any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Question #2:
He is 2 and I have had him about 2 weeks. The first week he was fine, he would talk to us (bird language) show off when anyone approached his cage and was a really funny little character. But it seems like overnight he has turned into a completely different bird. He 'growls' when anyone looks at him, and screeches if you talk to him. He has been like this for a couple of days. Aswell as, he will not let us touch him or his cage without going for us! Whats wrong with him? Thankyou

Question #4:
I went to the pet shop looking for a hand reared cockatiel, but the shop persuaded us to pay £90 for my indian ringneck. I loved him and everything, but now hes home he doesnt get on with my family and he is quite visious and goes for people. He settled in the first week, but now he has turned into a completely different bird. Aswell as, I have looked up on these birds and i dont know enough about them and i dont think this is the right home for him, as i cant fulfill his needs. Do you think its cruel to take him and swap him so he gets another home? Thankyou
Question #5:
Normally I love my little birdy. I have had him just over a week and have bonded with him quite well. He acsepts treats from me through the bars but not through my hand. He will eat from his food bowl out of my hand though. However sometimes when he is in his cage and he see's my arm approaching he will go for my arm. Although he cant get me because he is in the cage, it upsets me because i dont know what he's thinking and i would really love a tame cuddly bird. I baught him from the pet shop, and the person selling him said he wasnt the tamest. Infact he's not tame at all. He will only let me touch his cage, any one else he will flap about. And certainly he doesnt like my family hovering over him. Please help, much thanks. Kind regards.

Question #15:
He tends to get nervous more often when we interact with him on our hand. He is about a year and a half old, just got his black ring. We really love him, but he is not affectionate toward us. We try to speech train and he doesn't want to talk. Prefers his own reflection. I've had him for over 6 months. He is a great eater tho and enjoys having snacks while we're at the kitchen table eating. I am told I've gotten the wrong species for pet quality, so I'm thinking of introducing a conure into our home to keep him company and give us the interaction we want. Any suggestions?
Question #16:
this indian ringneck flew into my house yesterday evening . he cant fly properly but is really tame n loves being around humans. i just wanted to know his age. unlike most ringnecks the end of his beak is yellow n his beak has a few scratches. he doesnot have any ring around his neck and he has long nails. his wings have red feathers in the centre
Question #17:
I went out to the aviary this morning to find Lilly, the hen from our only breeding pair, on the ground. It's especially sad because its just coming in to breeding season now and she was a great mum.
I didn't notice any signs whatsoever of her being ill, she was happy and seemed healthy. On closer inspection just now, I couldn't find anything abnormal, she was in pretty much perfect feather condition, no weeping from the eyes or nostrils, her vent was clean, she just seemed to drop dead for no reason.
The thing I'm concerned about is Sam, the male. I did see them feeding each other over the last week, and if she was diseased, he most likely is too. This pair has also been around our other birds, not in direct contact, but close enough i think to infect them.
I just want to know how much it will cost for a necropsy approximately, or if you have any clue as to what it is that killed her. I'll call the avian vet asap.
@wacky, Thanks for your info, (I can't remember whether you're in Australia too), but its not even spring yet, and they didn't even get a chance to breed, the nest box only just went in a couple of weeks ago.
The reason I'm so concerned is that we have a flock of about 30 and I don't want anything to wipe the whole lot out because I decided to overlook something. I've always made sure that she, in particular, has had enough calcium so I don't think it's egg binding. Their aviary also just had a massive cleanout to prepare for breeding season. Prior to that though we did notice some mice, but that was taken care of.
