Question #1:
I currently have two cute little budgies and they don't like to interact with me unless I have food, they are cute to watch but a little boring. I really want to get a third bird, but I can't decide what would be good to get. I currently live in my parents house, but I would like to eventually move into an apartment and therefore I need a somewhat quiet bird. I would also like to get something with a bit more intelligence ,personality (sorry budgies!), costs less than $300USD and isn't too big. I can't decide on either a sun or green cheek conure, a parrotlet, cockatiel or lineolated parakeet.
elly,
I do interact with them, but not as much as I would like to be able to. I got them at Petsmart a couple of years ago, I bought one at first but he just seemed so lonely and wouldn't leave his perch so I got him a little friend. They have bonded to each other and therefore they don't need me as a companion. If I do get another bird I would definitely get one that's hand-raised and not from a box store like petsmart.
Which is quieter, a green cheek conure or a cockatiel? I really can't decide between the two
Can someone please give more info on conures?
Question #2:
my gcc will peck at my lips and pry my mouth open to peck at my teeth and lick at my gums --- when i do not allow him into my mouth he bites harder at my lips
why does he want to get into my mouth ---- i thought human mouths were bad for gccs
Question #3:
The story is we were looking through craig's list posts and came across one where a guy was looking to rehome his green cheek conure. His work kept him away for too long and he couldn't devote enough time for him. We offered to give him a good home. A few weeks later, he said ok. We already have parrots (a green cheek conure and an african grey)
We make arrangements and when we meet him we find out it's not a green cheek conure at all. It's a blue cap conure. Quite a bit larger than we expected and the cage we had prepared for him simply wouldn't do. He's much larger than our green cheek.. which is close to what we were expecting. Ok, we scrambled a bit and got a suitable one with enough space for toys and wing stretching.
We get him home, let him out of the carrier. I expected lots of screaming. He obliged =D I expected some nipping.. and he did nip at us. But what's strange is he'll climb up on your shoulder and not bite ears or anything. He'll walk up to you and play with your shoelace. He'll step up onto a wooden perch you're holding. He'll gently take food from your hand. But if you offer him your hand or finger, he'll try to bite.
I know I have some trust to build with the bird, and I plan on taking it one day at a time. I expect a long hard road ahead with the use of many ear plugs.... but the fear of hands but not people worries me.
I'm planning on taking him into an avian vet for a check up ASAP. Haven't had a chance to weigh him yet but her looks a little malnourished and he keeps chewing on the leg his band is on so I want to get that cut off. (the band, not the foot)
I've tamed a parent raised budgie before... but I've never tried to earn the trust of a bird that has a real reason to mistrust humans... and I'm wondering if that's the case here. Advise from more experienced bird people would be welcome. I fully understand it could very well be a long, hard road ahead of me, but I want to do right by the little guy. He deserves that much at least. No quick fixes.

Question #12:
I have a few questions
-How old is when a green cheek becomes sexually mature and can breed?
-Would you recomment pellets or seeds for the diet?
-Can you tell the difference by how a conure acts and how they look to tell the sex of the bird (exp. male conures will usally talk more and defend more) that was just an example..
-How can I make it so my new 3 month old conure dosent pick up bad habits from my naughty 2 year old?
-After introducing my birds how long should I wait to move them in together?
I introduced my conures like a week ago, and they were alright sometimes they would scream and bite a bit i just separted them when that was done though, but sometimes the two yar old conure will groom the 3 month old one, and he licks her eye and sometimes hes mean and puts his claw/leg up to her head and tries to grab it.
Also I found them cuddleing yesterday in her cage
Do they like eachother?
are they just establishing pecking order?
Also I found that he climbed on her back yesterday, and stood directly on top of her, was he trying to mate he always tries t get on her for some reason?
Additional info: my two year old has never been around birds since he was 3 months, and the 3 month old has been around birds her whole life.
Need any more info? just ask.
Question #13:
Hi, I really want to foster a parrot, so do you think I would be able to?
I am 12 years old and I was thinking about fostering a bird next summer when I won't have to worry about school. I will be 13 years old by then. I also have had experience with parrots. I own an African grey parrot, a green cheek conure, and 4 budgies. Also my mom has a lot of experience too with parrots and she has a goffin's cockatoo, a cockatiel, and a double yellow headed Amazon parrot. Also my mom could help me foster a bird too if I ever needed help. I also know which bird rescue I would foster a bird from, I adopted my African grey parrot from there and my mom adopted her double yellow headed amazon from there too. So do you think I would be able to foster a bird? If so, what are some different parrot species you recommend for me to foster?
Thanks!
Question #14:
There's a website i found that offers awesome, clear, acrylic bird cages for all birds. i know that the minimum for a green cheek conure in cage size would be 18x18x18, and they have one for sale that is 18x18x20. the question is, is it okay to have an acrylic bird cage for a parrot? it seems it would rob them of their climbing freedom on the cage bars, but it would be a lot cleaner and a lot nicer visually than a metal cage. if provided with enough activities such as manzanita perches, rope ladders, etc, would an acrylic bird cage be alright to have?
here is the website:

Question #15:
i have a ten year old green cheek conure i want to sex it just to see if it a male or female do you think it is worth it? it will only cost 15.00???

Question #17:
i have a ten year old green cheek conure i was wonder how much it would cost to get it sexed and then buy a mate and breed them or is he/she too old to be breed??? detailed answers please!!
Question #18:
My green cheek conure is having like runny poop. it's like green and it's surrounded by mucus. what's wrong with him?? it's happened two times in five minutes!!
Question #19:
I have not seen him actually pull out the feathers, but the colored feathers are nearly all gone on his left side. There is no bald spot but his grey plume feathers are all that's showing. It started on his wing but now it is on the side underneath the wing and a little on his left leg. I don't know what's going on because he gets a ton of attention. He is almost never in his cage. What could be causing this?
Question #20:
I have a yellow sided green cheek conure who is 3 1/2 months old. I noticed that he has some pin feathers on his face/head, and there are little gray feathers that fall off of him. I read that GCs typically have their first molt between 6 and 10 months old. Is he molting early? Or could he just be losing baby feathers?
I don't think he is sick because he is acting normal - playful, eating well, singing, not fluffed up, etc. Plus, he just had a baby bird check up about a month ago and everything was fine...
