    Question #1:

What is wrong with keeping mirrors in a budgie parakeets cage?

From what I heard, the bird becomes obsessed with it, right? Also, does having a mirror have the same affects as having another real bird in the cage? I ask that question because I want to get a new bird, but should I expose this newbie to my other bird? One last question, My bird has had a mirror all of it's life (like 6 years), so, what will happen if I take it away, will she be more friendly towards me and no longer "obsessed" or will it be angrey and lonley?

    Question #2:

It's hard sometimes to just listen, do you agree?

    If We Only Listen

    Little songbird,
    do you sing for me
way up high in yonder tree?
    Caged bird talks
    from break of day;
enjoys what life has to say
    in chats with the wind,
    other birds on the fly,
    whistles little tunes
    when I’m nearby.
    Why do we complicate
    the simplest of things;
    forget the awesome beauty
    that gives it all meaning?
    Remember if you’re lonely
    a little down or blue,
    it’s God, through his nature,
    chats and sings to you.
Isn't it wonderful how peaceful being out in nature can make you...................if you get the chance in today's busy world?
sorry Jaye and any others in this room for the td's they are NOT mine.

If you could just step outside for 15-20min a day for fresh air and different sounds, you'd be amazed how much better you feel.

    Question #3:

My bird hates me, what can i do?

Ok well she's not really my bird, she's my mates but he doesn't spend much time at home, so i try to love her all i can. I feed her cheerios or honey oats, i clean her cage, i polish the mirrors, change her sandpaper, and water her. I sometimes let her out, and she's clearly not frightened of me, but hates my fingers. Sometimes, i feed her cheerios and she takes a nibble or two then furiously attacks my fingers with her beak. If i put my hand into her cage, she squawks at me and runs around the cage to get away from me!
I've been looking after her for several weeks now, my mate has had her for about a week longer than i've been looking after her, and she was 6 months old when he got her. She's a grey and white cockatiel. How can i make her more friendly and how do i train her?
Thanks raven i think you're right. She seems to be frightened of my fingers, but i've never teased her or distressed her knowingly in any way. I find that if i leave the room, she gives a type of wolf whistle a few times, and if i don't reply with the same, she seems to go into a panic and screeches until i answer, so she seems to have some sort of bond with me, but she's a totally different bird when her owner comes home. I think she's probably a one person bird!

    Question #4:

I need help trying to convince my parents to get a dog?

Well I've been wanting to get a dog for some time now. Actually, a really long time now! So... I found this PERFECT dog that I think is great for our family! Just so everyone knows, I'm an honors student, I never got a C,D,or F. And Once a week I go to work with my mom, and I earn 30 dollars so you can kind of tell I'm trying to earn it. In addition to that I'm selling my guitar. My mom told me about how she had a dog when she was 11. She lived in Poland with her mom, dad, three sisters, her grandma, and grandpa. She also mentioned how her aunt gave this small chicken bone to the dog, named Tina, and choked on it. My mom never forgave her, and cried for weeks. And on the other hand my dad remembers his dog from when he was 16. But he was an outside dog (Again, in Poland, there are many outside dogs rather than what's legal and illegal in the US.) that would stay in a fence kind of "cage" like thing. And he told me how the dog would hunt with him and everything and that once he caught a fox. But my mom SAID (I haven't asked her recently) , "The house is going to smell like dog," "Nobody will take him out for walks." "It's going to cost a lot of money." "There's going to be more stress for me," "I'm going to end up with everything" To fix what she once said, She's not going to end up with everything because I do the laundry, I clean the house, I dust everything, I clean the tables, I vacuum, I take care of my BROTHERS birds, I take care of my hamster (naturally, lol.), and I try to do the best I ever can to show them I'm responsible! For money, I earned $70 four weeks ago. Now I have merely $1,400. Yeah, that's a lot for a kid, huh. I haven't asked them recently again, I just think it's awkward... :( But I
ll try. What do you guys think? Can you think of something to prove my parents wrong? Yeah, it can be expensive, I'm really trying g to earn the money, and yeah a dog can have a doggy smell, but not that bad right? Tell me what YOU think. Should we get this rescue dog from pet-finder? Should we him a home? How can I show my parents that I'm serious? WHEN should I tell them?
It's not that NO MEANS NO, it's that they can't agree with each other. And it's not that I'm going to college anytime soon or something. -______-
******** I am always home. If the school year starts I leave at 7 am and come back at 3 pm, but someone's lways going to be home. (Dad, Mom, Grandma.) And I am aware of all the responsibility, I have looked on the internet, learned much about taking care of dogs, I talked to my friends who hav dogs, and have asked them questions. Read the whole thing if your gonna answer the damn question. Then you won't under nd my lifestyle. :P
To: OMG DOGS - Your freakin selfish! You don't know me OR my family! They need time, and I need commitment. So Don't even start wih me! I know it's not my decision! I didn't say it was!

    Question #6:

Is This A Good Scedule For My Pets?=) EASY 10 Points!?!?

Hi everyone! I'll be watching 2 rabbits for 2 months=/ I already have 2 rabbits of my own and 3 birds. Is this a good scedule for all my pets? Here is is:
9:00am: I get my bunny Bonnie out for 30 minutes while cleaning her cage.
9:30am: I get my other bunny Bambi out for 30 minutes while cleaning his cage.
10:00am: I get the 2 bunnies I'm watching out for 30 minutes while every 2 days cleaning their pen.
    Take a break....
Sometimes: 11:00am: I clean all my bird's cages once a week. Which includes getting them all out for 25-30 minutes each=)
4:00pm: I go to gymnastics 3 hours on Tuesday and 4 hours on Thursday.
When I get home I get MY bunnies out again for 30 more minutes, then if I have time I'll get the other bunnies out again for atleast 20-30 minutes.

Is that a good schedule? I'm still working on it. Tonight I'm getting the bunnies that I'm suppose to watch. Also is $20.00 a week good for watching 2 rabbits for 2 months? All together it would be $160.00. Thanks everyone in advance and if ANYONE is rude, you'll be reported^-^ =(

Oh P.S. I go to school starting August 18, so this schedule will have to change then. Thanks!!!!
Oh, she suggested that amount. I said I could go lower on the price, but she said it was fine=)

    Question #7:

when breeding sun conures do you need to take the male out of the cage?

please help my bird had eggs about 1-2 weeks ago and i need to no if i should remove the male birds from the cage and leave the female and the eggs please respond as soon as possible i really need help
    thanks

    Question #8:

Can I put a lovebird near the kitchen, like the breakfast area?

I'm getting a lovebird in a few days, and my family was discussing today about where we were going to put it. I wanted to put it in my bedroom, but they said it wouldn't get enough socialization there, so they want to put it in the breakfast area near the kitchen. It's pretty much attached to the kitchen, and the cage will be like 25 ft away from the stove (but we don't use non-stick cookware). Is that safe? Because I heard that it's bad for the bird if you put it in the kitchen, and I tried telling my parents that but they wouldn't listen! They're totally adamant on putting it there. It's also RIGHT by the back door, and it is always opening and closing. I'm thinking it might create a draft, but I'm not sure.
So is it okay to put my bird there, or not? If it isn't, please provide some ways I can convince my parents. Thanks!

    Question #9:

Should I let the birds go free?

My dad has two birds and they're in a cage. I feel so bad for them cause I always see them trying to fly out the cage, and they keep looking around the cage for ways to get out.

I don't want to let them go cause they will die out in the wild, but I hate to see them so miserable in that cage.

    What would you do?

    Question #10:

Can two birds get attached to each other like this?

i want a green cheek conure but i already have a quaker that hates me but its not mine actually its my brothers i just dont want the conure and quaker to get attached and cut me out so their gonna be in seperate cages an ddifferent rooms im i gonna be alright?? Thanks Gabe
i just dont want them to get attached to each other so just give me some pointers to help me out so they dont get attached

    Question #11:

Need advice from experienced parakeet keepers! Just adopted an orphan bird.?

I had a ring neck dove as a pet (27 years in fact--he died 2 mos ago) but know nothing about parakeets.
A stray parakeet was captured this morning after flying around for a couple of days at my local Home Depot store by some caring employees, and, since I was there and they didn't know what to do with him, I've just brought him home! We have a nice big cage and there's lots of online advice, of course, but I'd really appreciate tips from any of you who know these darling little birds well. Can I keep him alone? Food high in cage or low? Should I give him a few days in a quieter part of house to acclimate? Thanks for your help!! (and what do you think--------should I name him Homer or Depot?!)

    Question #12:

why did my parakeets freak out last night 0.o (srry kinda long)?

    ok it starts lk this:
woke up at around 4:30 in the morning by a txt from a friend n since i was already up i though i might as well go to the bathroom. after i was done i was about to turn off the hallway light when i heard some flapping and jumping coming from my birds down stairs. i thought mabey they were just squabbling over a spot at the perch or something. as i listened on i heard no squaking or chittering jst a lot of violent jumping and flapping. it might hav been 30 secs that passed before i went downstairs to check. n the noises continued until i uncovered the cage. i found the female grasping the front of the cage and the male was on the bottom. they were both panting, n it looks as though something frightened them. since the male was on the bottom i was wondering if mabey it was sick or injured so tried waveing my hand nxt to him to test if he was still alert, he didnt seem to notice my hand nxt to him which was odd becuz he usually flinches. same goes for the female she didnt flinch wen i tried to open the door until bout 3 secs. then she start flipping out again. i think it was mostly the female who was freaking out more bcuz i didnt see the male do much. called my mom over to check nothing seems to be wrong, she covered the cage n they both went back on their perch including the male so i suspect that he wasn't injured. nxt morniging everything was fine and back to normal with them, they were chirping and everything lk the event last night didn't even occured. i had a theory that mabey they saw or sensed a cat but then again the cage was covered n the window blind covered most of the window n they dnt really seem to mind cats since they r outside.
@ Lia: well i guess the falling could make sense, but then y did she freak out a min after i uncovered that cage i mean it wasnt a supprise or anything she knew it was me

    Question #13:

What pet should I get! Recommend me some!?

Hi, I really want to get a pet soon. I'm not sure which pet to get though. I can't get a cat or dog because my parents won't let me and my sister has allergies to them. I don't want a fish or bird because they virtually have to be left in their cage/aquarium the whole time. So, apart from fish, birds, dogs and cats, what would you recommend as a good pet? I'm not looking for a particular kind of pet, so feel free to suggest anything (as long as it's reasonable E.g. don't recommend that I buy an Elephant). Also, I would really appreciate if you give one or more reasons as to why you are recommending that pet. Thanks in advance :)

    Question #14:

Introducing a new budgie to the flock?

I currently have two little budgies, Bonnie and Clyde ( Click Here ). I've had them since April, and they were not hand raised or tame. However, they are still under a year old. Their cage is big enough for at least 2 more budgies to live comfortably and still have plenty of room to fly and scurry about. I'm not buying a new budgie anytime soon, however, in the future, I would like to know. These birds are only semi-tame, as you see in the video they are playful and are in very good feather. They will sit on my shoulder and with some coaxing the male will let me pet his tummy and his back. The female always starts a singing game with me where she'll get as close to me as possible (while she is in the cage) and she will chirp very loudly. She gives me a little look, then I whistle back at her. We can do this for hours! However, they still aren't completely comfortable with me, and like I said before, they are just semi-tame.

My question is, if I were to bring in a hand raised friendly budgie to the family, will the other budgies learn from his example? Would they only become more timid? Would the hand raised budgie start to become fearful of me? If I ever do get a new budgie, would it be easier just to have him in his own cage?

    Thanks :)

    Question #15:

Pet Zebra Finch got caught in cage, injured (sorry long question)?

We have a large bird cage with five finches in it. I went in the room today and noticed one of them was flapping around on top of one of the nesting huts inside the cage (yes, there are actually babies inside about 1 week old!). I looked closer and noticed one of his toes/nail was caught in the weaving of the hut. I was able to care fully hold the bird and hut and cut away the weave until I got his foot free. When it came out It wasn't bent in any horrible direction or anything but I did notice a small bit of blood on the toe and top of the hut. I've checked on him several time since (this happened about an hour ago) and he's moved around to different spots in the cage so he's flying and landing ok. But when he's not moving he's really hunched down and his feathers are pretty ruffled out. Is there any type of way to deal with this type of injury on such a small bird or will he be ok on his own? Unfortunately I don't have a whole ton of extra money so I can't afford to bring him in anywhere. Should I go out and get an antibiotic supplement to add to their water to at least prevent an infection from forming? Also I am worried because he is the father of the babies in the nest and was spending at least half the time in the nest with them, I don't know which one is doing the feeding of the babies. This pair of finches already raised one baby successfully just about a month ago so I know they are capable of caring. Sorry for the length of the question, any insight to the above mentioned issues would be of great help, preferably from someone with bird experience. I know enough about the basics so don't need to be reminded of the obvious things, only looking for actual answers. Easy 10 pts for someone with a good thorough answer!

    Question #16:

little bird dont know how to make her eat?

today it happened that a young pigeon(as per vet) fell on my front door and it needed help........... i quikly went to vet and he suggested some medicines and he cleaned the wound of the pigeon.
i have kept it in a cage sort of thing and has given it the medicine it needed. pigeons wing seems to be broken and thats why its not able fly.
i have given her rice and water in a bowl but its not eating anything.
how do i make her eat/drink?
i have tried to put her beak in the water bowl but no use.
thanks for the answers for what it needs to eat but the real problem is its i guess too young to understand to eat... coz it isnt eating anything.
its been yesterday since it is with me and today its bit more active than yesterday but i dont find it eating whatever iam giving to it.
i have kept it in a cage sort of thing and i leave the food and water inside it and to protect it from stress of seeing humans i cover the cage with towell and after a while when i open it see if it has eaten anything i see the water spill all over the place and also the food dispersed... so i do clean everything but i am worried if it has eaten or drank anythink.
should i catch it in my hand and force food and water into her... that would be very sterrfull for the bird?

    Question #17:

How to make budgie seed sticks?

I am wanting to know how to make seed sticks for budgies. I am meaning the sticks that you can buy at the shops and just hang in the bird cage but home made. I have tried some recipes but they didn't work, the seeds didn't stay on the stick and was all runny. If some recipes involve an oven can you tell me if it needs to be preheated or not please. Cheers

    Question #18:

How much would it cost monthly to care for budgies?

My mom need to get rid of her two budgie birds, so i said id take them. Things are tough financially lately so im wondering roughly how much it would cost to care for budgies monthly with all they need. I will have the cage and birds obviously, so aside from that, what do they need and how much does food etc cost??
    10 pts!
    Thank you
Oh and i live in canada
